Secret to beautiful glowing skin at any age

What is the secret to beautiful glowing skin?

Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies. It is soft enough to allow movement, it is tough enough to be our first line of defence against external factors and sensitive enough to inform us of pain, temperature and pressure.

As we age our skin becomes thinner and drier. Nothing will stop the ageing process but we can control certain factors that accelerate this process including over exposure to the sun, chemicals, poor diet, stress and smoking.

These tips are the secrets that will help bring back that youthful glowing skin we all had when we were younger – and so quickly you won’t believe it’s you

Follow these tips – they WILL work

1.       Water

Dehydrated skin looks flat and dull. Drinking enough water every day will help plump out the skin and increase its suppleness which causes wrinkles to ‘fill out’ and appear softer and smoother. Water is also essential in flushing out toxins in our body.

Reports show that water increases blood flow to the skin which inturn improves the appearance of the skin.  Aim to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day.

2.      Olive Oil and  Rosehip oil

Olive oil freshens and hydrates skin.  Olive oil is a natural moisturiser for our skin, on the face as well as the rest of the body.  Try mixing one cup milk powder with one table spoon olive oil as a cleanser. Milk is high in lactic acid which will exfoliate your skin and the olive oil will moisturise the skin.  Rosehip oil is an essential fatty acid that helps to regenerate skin cells and repair damaged skin tissue.  Both oils help keep skin smooth and youthful looking, aiding in a beautiful healthy glow.

3.        Vitamin Supplements

Vitamin supplements including antioxidants vitamin C and E aid in skin health. Antioxidants fight free radicals in our bodies and help protect the skin against damage from the sun. There are some claims that prenatal vitamins can help improve skin health, and give that all over skin glow. However prenatal vitamins contain higher than normal levels of iron which can be detrimental to women who are not pregnant.

Biotin or vitamin H is an essential vitamin for the skin, hair and nails. Sardines, egg yolks, whole grains, nuts and bananas are a plentiful source of biotin.

Niacin or vitamin B-3 helps in the reduction of water loss in the skin and can improve elasticity.

Folic acid promotes new cell production.

Refer to your health care professional before taking any supplements or stopping any medication

4.       Face Creams

Look for creams with these ingredients in to give the skin that glow and reduce signs of ageing –

Alpha-hydroxy acids help exfoliate dead skin cells and help with the production of new smooth skin, giving skin a radiant glow.  AHA’s reduce wrinkles, dry skin, acne and age spots speeding up the turnover of old skin cells, making them look younger. Some foods contain these AHA’s naturally.  They include grapes, apples, citrus and sour milk.  Skin needs to have time to recover from these acids so give your skin a break between treatments.

Peptides – a protein that is the fundamental building block of skin that keeps skin intact.  They aid in wound healing, fade fine lines and wrinkles and helps skin to  ‘bounce back’.

Retinol – Is a vitamin A compound that really packs a punch and treats fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, dullness, sagging skin, and the list goes on.  It works by speeding up cell turnover and stimulating cell repair and slows the ageing process.

Antioxidants – A C & E that neutralise free radicals that can breakdown skin cells and cause premature ageing and wrinkles, some also help stimulate collagen and fade blotchy patches.

Coenzyme Q10 – an ingredient that can reduce to appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as protect the skin from sun damage

5.          Microderm abrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non invasive treatment used to resurface skin by removing dead or damaged layers.  It can restore and improve the quality of the skin which helps give a healthy more youthful look.  Perfect for fine lines, acne scarring, pigmentation and rejuvenation.
